Drawings, pictures and writing are copyright of the author Robbie Kennedy Bennett. HER DAD DISAPPROVED. My story poem of acceptance of my late Father-in-Law. He would turn up at our house every Thursday and cut my lawns. I felt so guilty that I started cutting them on a Wednesday night. Next morning he would see that the lawns had been cut, he would pause for a while then paint my window frames. I could not win. Just before that time and in the mid 1980s I was well into running. He was from Bilston in the West Midlands and a couple of times a week he went to a pub in Bradley. There was a well known road race called the Bradley Marathon, it is actuately about 6 miles or so. I nearly won it in 1986, I came a very close second. He told me briefly that he had mentioned it to his friends in the pub in Bradley. I was gobsmacked as they say in the Black Country. WITH LOVE AND WITH PRIDE.

part extract;
by Robbie Kennedy Bennett

When we first met we were young and carefree,
She was a little bit younger than me.
And we went to the youth club dance,
Her dad disapproved of our youthful romance.
Then all of a sudden we were wed,
A few years passed before we wet a babes head...

My son he always kept his eyes on,
He was there for him day and night.
When we went for a ride to the club or seaside,
He kept him within his sight.

My son he sat down on a step at Borth,
His grandad sat there by his side.
While my son sat down on a step at Borth,
His grandad watched over with love and with pride.

The pub in the poem is the Victoria Inn that as a sun terrace upstairs overlooking Cardigan Bay. In July 2008 my wife and I spent a couple of days at Borth and couldn’t resist a nostalgic drink there. Although somewhat changed and with no access into the room where the photograph was taken, it was nice to recall that moment.
