Poetic Writing of ROBBIE KENNEDY BENNETT © www.rkbpoetry.co.uk Born in Wolverhampton of English and Scottish parentage. He grew up on the Rough Hills Estate area of the town and his Scottish ancestral roots are in the Kingdom of Fife and Dundee. The author is now residing in Codsall, Staffordshire. Drawings, pictures and writing are copyright of the author Robbie Kennedy Bennett. I THOUGHT A WEE WHILE. Even now as I am placing my poem on my site, I get feelings of not understanding. Maybe to find someone who is as equal in your heart as your birthland is the answer.

by Robbie Kennedy Bennett

While travelling back from Glasgow
Along the A74,
Hills I could see for many a mile
Their colours changed in the shadows.
I imagined, as I looked
And I thought a wee while,
How far it must have seemed
To leave a homeland and childhood behind,
And place your roots elsewhere,
I find it hard to imagine,
I find it hard to compare.
While travelling back from Glasgow
Along the A74,
The sky I could see for many a mile
And the colours still changed in the shadows.
On the hills there were buildings
Made of old stone,
I imagined, as I looked
And I thought a wee while,
How could they not want to return,
To the hills and the glens,
And the land that is inside their heart,
What was it like to keep them apart.
To me it seemed too far
As I sat there my thoughts did wonder,
While I was a traveller inside of a car.
When they never came home
Was it for somebody fair,
Is a man willing to let go of his belonging
To move on and settle elsewhere.

The evening sun shines from the west
Through the clouds there's a picturesque scene,
Twenty five miles then its England
Just beyond old Gretna Green.
All shades of grey hide the blue of the sky
I imagined, as I looked
And I thought a wee while,
Tis soon to wish Scotland goodbye.

This poem was created and the pictures taken on my journey back from the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park in 2005.
