Wherever the leather on my shoes take me to
A far off beach, a stretch of coast a fabulous view
I always head back home
Home to Wolverhampton
Where my family reside
Where they all abide
The surroundings of Wolverhampton

Conscious of the day and come the time
I’ve read the script and I see the homebound sign
Be not my blood thick and thorough,
I’m bounty of the borough of Wolverhampton

Dear old Dudley Street, Grand Theatre and Queens Square
St Peters, prominently standing there
St Peters, can’t recall ever being inside
Wolverhampton, where my family reside

Childhood excitement of shop windows in Wolverhampton
Easily produced what my dear mother introduced
Where memories were made, I miss the Arcade
Up town in Wolverhampton
Those memories won’t fade,
My mother and I in the glistening Arcade
Inherent Wolverhampton

Friends and family sought and caught a bus,
Each and every one of us
To and fro Stafford Street or Pipers Row
The buses would go
To the estates of Wolverhampton

I speak your tongue,
Your children I grew up among
Boy’s pumps to an adult man’s shoe
Wolverhampton, what more can I offer you?

High on Sedgley Beacon today like an eagle I perch
Looking for St Peters church
St Peters, Wolverhampton
St Peters, can’t recall ever being inside
Wolverhampton, where my family reside

Wherever the leather on my shoes take me to
Tyres wear and tear with the miles that I do
Driving a stack and heading back to Wolverhampton
Where my family reside
Where they all abide
The surroundings of Wolverhampton

Dear old Dudley Street, Grand Theatre and Queens Square
Home in Wolverhampton
I’m going home to my family back there

On Saturday 20th June 2009 I was in the process of penning this rhyme about Wolverhampton. All the miles that I travel I always look for Wolverhampton on road and motorway signs. Approaching I always look for the church of St Peters. I needed a picture to go with the poem and remembered when I lived that side of town occasionally I go to the top of Sedgley Beacon for the panoramic view. You can see Birmingham, Worcestershire, and the Wrekin in Shropshire and of course St Peters church Wolverhampton.

I made my way to the height of Sedgley Beacon for the first time in over 20years and found it to be a clear day.
